The international situation in the world today is characterized by a set of sharp contradictions of the political, economic, social and historical nature. In recent years, more and more states insistently manifest their will to prevent a deeper integration process between Russia and other CIS countries.
As a result, the active process of building new power centers near the borders of Russia is activated confrontation over access to natural, energy, scientific, technical, human and other resources of the former Soviet Union. At the turn of the 2020´s, Russia could become the main arena of struggle for sources of raw materials and other natural resources.

Conclusion
Analyzing the position of Russia on the international arena, it is easy to note that the threat of her being involved in a nuclear war has diminished substantially, in non-nuclear war of large scale also. At the same time, the threat of local conflicts involving national interests has substantially increased. Therefore, the role of military factor in national defense and the future of international relations in the XXI century will be highly significant, especially in view of the desire of some new countries to acquire nuclear weapons and the ongoing modernization of the armed forces of the majority of the leading countries of the world.
The most important, the primary means of ensuring the military security of the Russian Federation are the Armed Forces. Therefore, there must be a comprehensive software and qualitative improvement of the Armed Forces, other troops, military formations and bodies, maintaining their readiness for concerted action to prevent, contain and neutralize external and internal threats. Also, the Armed Forces of Russia must meet the character of the international situation and the characteristics of the geopolitical situation of the country. At a time when Russia tries to catch the last crumbs of its imperial past, is precisely its armed forces have the role to consolidate on the international arena an image of a strong and independent country.
Zone of major preoccupation is Caucas. There are many reasons for that. First, the events of recent years show a high likelihood of armed conflict as a CIS member states and neighboring countries as well as within the CIS. And Russia runs the risk of becoming involved in them, well, if in the role of peacemaker, and not as part of a highly operational. The years after the collapse of the Soviet Union, gave too much factual material on the subject: Nagorno-Karabakh, Transnistria, Abkhazia, Tajikistan. Secondly, the Russian sick from the same illnesses as other former Soviet republics. With the ongoing economic crisis, the intense struggle for power and property are at different levels, political extremism, it’s hard to imagine that Russia will be able to eliminate completely the chance of a new military clashes in the next few years.
All this is to a large extent be determined and the main directions
of the military policy of the Russian Federation. In the first place
it is a military building, namely: which kind of armed forces to have,
how much and for what.
Possible scenarios of Russia's participation in hostilities should
start to prioritize the development of individual species and genera
of the Armed Forces. Status of nuclear power requires providing constant
combat readiness of the strategic nuclear forces (SNF). Thus, determining
their qualitative and quantitative composition.
