About Kazakhstan's Independence. Chronicles of Independent Kazakhstan
25th October, 1990 is a special date for the citizens of Kazakhstan. It symbolizes the end of the old history and the beginning of a new one.

On 25th October 1990, date of the independence of Kazakhstan became a turning point in Kazakhstan's development. the Declaration of Independence was the first fundamental legislation of the new country. It is a legal, political and ideological document expressing the very principles of the realities of human existence, mostly human rights and protection of freedom, ownership, political plurality and division of powers. these fundaments became the base of the Constitution.
On 16th December, 1991 Kazakhstan adopted the Constitutional Law on the independence of the Republic of Kazakhstan. In 2001 Kazakhstan celebrated the 10th anniversary of its independence.
So can we call Nazarbayev as the leader
of the nation? Twenty years after gaining independence, what was achieved
by the country? Of course, Kazakhstan is one of the most stable countries
in the former Soviet Union, which did not experience strong shocks.
If the current president doesn’t create a mechanism for transferring
power peacefully, the crisis of government in Kazakhstan will be possible.
This country in Central Asia is ahead of its nearest neighbors in economic
performance, but there is another question: "What is the role of
energy potential?" The opinion of Nazarbayev is important in the
international arena, and of course there is merit of the impact of natural
resources, but the personal qualities of the president also play a significant
role. The regime in Kazakhstan is far from democratic, but we can not
say that this regime is the worst.

Since then this date has been marked as the starting point in the process of the establishment of the sovereignty and independence of the country. Nursultan Nazarbayev has summarized the results of 20 years of existence of the Institute of presidential power. April 24, 1990 for the first time in the history of Kazakhstan's Supreme Soviet adopted the position of President. Nursultan Nazarbayev was elected unanimously for this post.

- Today, people congratulate me on the fact that the presidential government was established 20 years ago. A lot of time has passed since then and we have done our best to establish independence and improve the lives of people. It seems that only one moment has passed. On one side, this is good, since it means that we haven’t let the grass grow under our feet. We created a new generation of Kazakhstan’s residents and transferred to a new policy and economy. Every year, we are improving the quality of life of our people. Today, Kazakhstan is a famous and authoritative state. Just yesterday, I arrived from Korea and I can say that this trip was very successful since we negotiated with the president of Korea, which will invest over 8 billion US dollars into Kazakhstan. We will construct plants and thousands of people will receive new jobs and I’m very happy about this. We will prevent any systemic failures. We are confident about the future because the implementation of the new programme until 2020 will assist in increasing the economy and improving people’s lives. The best thing is to make good deeds for people who trust you. Despite the crisis, we increased pensions by 25% from January the 1st and from April the 1st, we increased salaries and scholarships by 25%. On the threshold of the 65th anniversary of the Second World War, we will also pay allowances to the veterans of war. I believe that there is no other country in the world, which can say that despite all the difficulties, it is doing good things for the people.

- The 20th anniversary of the presidency of Nursultan Nazarbayev in Kazakhstan was a time of success. In fact, Kazakhstan has developed into an independent and dynamically developed republic. The fact that the country has always been able to maintain its unity, find energy for development and new goals for the future is closely connected with the establishment of the institute of presidency 20 years ago. This institute has become the basis of Kazakhstan’s statehood, which helped it to overcome hard times and showed the main directions of its development. The first president of Kazakhstan, Nursultan Abishevich Nazarbayev has become the symbol of the nation, a true leader, who has developed the whole country. Kazakhstan is lucky to have such a wise philosopher, an active politician and a world statesman as a leader.
Kazakhstan has achieved an authoritative position in the international community and the election of the country for the post of the chairman of the OSCE proves this. The country has attracted over 80 billion US dollars in investments and doubled its GDP. Salaries have increased five-fold and pensions by three times. The life expectancy of the people has increased from 65 to 68 years, maternal mortality decreased by a half and the birth rate has increased by 1.5 times.
