About the town of Kropotkin

Kropotkin is located in the eastern part of the region, on the right bank of the river Kuban, 136 km to the north-east from Krasnodar.  Founded in 1771 as the Caucasian fortress to protect Russia's southern border. Cossacks of the Don village Romanov put up a post here. Growing up around it the village received the same name. In 1921 the town was renamed into Kropotkin (in honor of P.A. Kropotkin, the famous revolutionary, and scholar.) Population - 82.5 thousand people. Currently, Kropotkin is still a major transportation hub of the Kuban, the city has numerous industrial companies, and a small business is developing too. At the same time, Kropotkin - lush greenery, interesting southernmost city, in the territory of Kropotkin are 16 burial mounds of the Bronze Age and medieval monuments of the war years, the beautiful St. Basil Cathedral, the historical museum, parks and alleys, there are two stadiums in the town, a swimming pool, a movie theater. One of the main architectural attractions of Kropotkin is a railway station building, which is the most beautiful station of the Kuban.
